Michael Tsarion is a bloody genius. I'm about a quarter into his epic-length presentation "The Irish Origins of Civilisation" (see here), and all I'll say is, don't approach with any deeply held beliefs about history...
Definitely, as I come across anything of interest relating to things mentioned within, I shall share them here, because really if we do not know where we have come from, how can we know where we are going?
Celtic standing stone inscribed with cross, estimated (minus the inscription) to be from 3500BC.
Hi, I am a regular reader of your blog from Ireland. I must however add that the stone in the picture clearly has Ogham markings on the left-hand side. This was an ancient Irish alphabet in use between 400AD and 1000AD. The carbon dating (if that was indeed the method used) must be incorrect. The cross and the style used to draw the wolf underneath would also be from the 1st millenium AD.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the insight Craig, perhaps the markings were added later. Not an expert on Irish culture myself :)
ReplyDeleteYou may be right, they might have been added later. I'm not sure. Even if it isn't from the BC era, Ireland still has Newgrange - a sophisticated measuring device/monument older than the Egyptian pyramids.
ReplyDeleteYep, I read the text attached to that picture of the stone:

"It was radio carbon-dated to the mid-4th Millennia BCE, the stone originated in Ireland, and the imagery is identical to stones in the Celtic British Isles. The Irish Latinate cross dates to the eighth century."

Interesting.
