LOL, could you possibly be more offensive to Americans than standing in front of George Washington's statue and, in the finest English voice, saying 'nice one George, what were you thinking'. We know what you mean, though. :)
I happen to think most if not all of the FFs were the real deal, maybe Hamilton is an exception. Although who knows, maybe Franklin really did kill those kids found in his cellar or maybe someone else did. And just because a lot of them were Masons doesn't necessarily mean they were on board with the 'big picture' agenda of Masonry. Some might call that a naive statement, but still, they were the intellectual force behind the creation of the most free major society that has ever existed. With no precedent, I might add. (Other nations since then have drawn on the American ideal when striving for their own freedom, an ironic example of which is post-French Vietnam, as MLK told us here on this blog last month.)
Patrick Henry smelt a rat when the Constitution was being written; I can agree with that. Liberty or Death. Can you imagine that? If anyone really lived by that philosophy today, I'm sorry to say the average member of the public would either accept, or actually assist the state in giving you Death. (eg tax resistors, the murder of Crocodile Dundee, Waco, on and on)
Anyway, I'm rambling.
