Support the Troops While Government Exploits Them, 2nd Edition

Obama says US troops are the "anchor of global security", and pledges to create a "new international order".

It's worth noting that really most of us in society are allowing ourselves to be used by the system in some capacity - it's just a little more potent, poignant and undeniable when the manipulation causes men and women to kill and be killed en masse. First question is, who benefits?

A not so secret directive penned by Gen. David H. Petraeus authorizes sending American Special Operations troops into Iran. The directive mentions a wide swath of countries in the Middle East, Central Asia and the Horn of Africa, but is obviously tailored for Iran, the number one target on the Pentagon’s radar.

Hey, remember when Obama said about leaving Iraq in 2011? Nah, neither do I...I kind of like being lied to by continuously Change-ing suited stage hypnotists, really. I mean, I'm far far away from the hellish warzones. Does it really concern me? As long as the corporate media is still broadcasting, my first concern is keeping the remote just within reach of my own personal foxhole, the arse indentation on the couch...

Epidemic: 6000+ U.S. Veterans Committed Suicide in 2009

With more than 6,000 veterans committing suicide every year –- and 98 veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan taking their own lives during fiscal 2009 alone -- the Department of Veterans Affairs is redoubling its outreach to veterans and promoting its toll-free suicide-prevention hotline.

National statistics show that veterans constitute about 20 percent of the 30,000 to 32,000 U.S. deaths each year from suicide. Of an average of 18 veterans who commit suicide each day, about five receive care through the VA health-care system. More than 60 percent of those five had diagnosed mental-health conditions.

The double standard on 'supporting the troops' is perhaps best exemplified by this O'Reilly classic. Of course, you don't have to 'support the troops' anymore, once they are no longer of use to the government. Because 'supporting the troops' never actually meant supporting the troops, it meant supporting whatever the government wanted to tell the troops to do.
