Guardian - Decision to introduce ID cards a 'no-brainer', says Alan Johnson

One detail to watch is that the Conservatives have pledged to cancel the ID card scheme. So I wonder how they will try and slither out of that promise like they are doing with the EU Referendum pledge.
Or maybe the cards will be scrapped - for now. They are very unpopular I believe, but then I don't think people had a huge amount of support for bailouts or 'anti-terrorism' powers either, so we will see.
As for why you wouldn't want a national ID card, well if you aren't opposed to that then I pity you, get familiar with the basic concepts of liberty so you can see how every one of them is under attack.
